Update for this week:

- New twister engine cam installed, so now I can finish the rest of the engine assembly
- New shifter linkage is fabbed and installed
- New kick panels fabbed up
- New seats installed

It's coming along now. Waiting on my comet 780 and a few odds and ends, before it's time to drop in the engine.

Glad you added the twister cam. With the stock cam they won't rev high easily.

You might want to check the end play on the twister cam. Some of them had a little too much.

Thanks all!

- yes I checked crank, cam, and balance shaft end play as I have heard the same... Luckily I only needed a thin shim on crank
- I spun around the whole assembly, to make sure that nothing made contact with any shifting of shafts laterally
- all that careful assembly, and the rotating of the crank feels very tight still. I'm worried about something making friction in the cylinder bore. I will add oil and give it a few spins before I take the head off again.

I turned the old governor shaft hole into a crank case vent that runs to a oil catch. I plan to run a valve cover vent there in parallel. I hope the neutral pressure helps rotation resistance as well.

Finally, have my shifter assembly finished. This is honestly the coolest part of the cart so far. It feels like a notchy old Ford floor shifter which is way better than I could have hoped for.

As Shepard pointed out to me any venting in the block will lessen oiling to the rocker box and with all the oil being flung around the crankcase a vent there it will probably get oil filled quickly. Just some thought

Hmm interesting. So rocker oiling occurs from crank vapors coming up through the push rod ports in the head or something?

If so, then that tube going from the valve cover to the stock airbox must be to burn excess oil vapors?

As for a catch filling quick, I'm placing it well above the top of the crank, so any liquid splash would just drip back into the crank (I hope). I can keep an eye during the break in period to see if I need to rethink the necessity. I'll add a pic of my setup once the engine is set into the cradle that I still need to weld in.

If you look there is a passage on the exhaust side of the engine that carries the oil up from the crankcase/splash fin up to the cylinder head/rocker arms. Shepard and I use a large check valve in the rocker are cover to maximize upper end oiling and create a vacuum in the crankcase to pull the piston back down. Believe it or not this results in a noticeable gain in power.

I believe it, and that's the reasoning I had about at least removing the positive pressure during downstroke. I focus on the same principle with 8 cylinders, and figured there was a low budget method for a thumper build. Do you have any pictures of your check valve solution? Thanks for all the tips as well!

On page #2 of my Vc 460 build shows the modded valve cover and page #18 shows the valve and completed install.
