Default GY6 crankshaft timing chain gear replacement

Do I have to remove the engine from my son's Carter brothers talon to remove the crankshaft ?

If I remove the top bolt can I lower the motor enough to split the case ?

I'm asking cause I'm the guy that has to do it and i will be by myself and nursing a torn rotator cuff so it's kind of like doing it with one hand while the other screams out with pain when move it the wrong way

Thank you for any and all assistance

I've never had a "carter" version before, but I did have a yerf dog spiderbox a while back with the howhit GY6 motor. Good running motor for sure that thing would do around 30mph

But from experience... remove the engine and work on it on the ground or a workbench. I prefer a workbench so I can sit on a stool. I don't think there's any way to split that case while it's still in the cart. Even if you could "fight it" in there, I don't think there's physically enough room. Plus getting to all the bolts around the case, etc. It's not worth it.

Maybe consider using a come along or a ratchet strap and one of the rafters in the garage to help lift it out... really though, if you can get a strap around it to use as a handle, you should be able to lift it out with one hand maybe using the other just as leverage to balance it. I doubt it weighs more than 50-60 lbs. IF the rack above the motor is removable, it will make your life a lot easier getting it in/out as well.

Well I ended up getting the crankshaft out and left the motor in .... it's a gymnastics routine but I did it ....

I think it's a good idea to replace the timing chain now ... I don't know what size the chain is ..... I'm hoping it's the 90 link
The only thing I know about the motor is that it's a GY6 150cc and the cart is a Carter brother's talon so I hope I ordered ths right chain
