Default 1996 EZGO TXT - Valve Issue

I was helping a friend yesterday trying to get his 1996 EZGO TXT to run. We pulled the air box off, cleaned out the carb and the reassembled and then decided to adjust the valves. We pulled the cover and when I went to turn the motor I realize the valves weren't moving. The cart literally drove yesterday with no issues and then he stopped to get off it and it would just sit there and turn over and do nothing. Suggestions on what broke?

Ok, this is a stupid question. I am guessing that is under the cover on that side of the motor?

Another stupid question, like in a car does it need to be "timed" then? If so, how?

Sorry I should have asked this earlier. I am guessing that these belts don't typically just break. Recommendations on where I should look as to what may have caused it to fail?

There are many possible reasons why it broke. See if you can spin the camshaft manually.. If not it may have seized..

If your cam is seized you will probably need a new head but what is more important is why did it seize? If it was due to an oiling issue you may as well take the engine out and open it up, if it was a oiling problem you need to find out where the problem was and if anymore damage was done in the engine.

I know this is a few days old, but Honestly, this is the first time i have ever known a pre MCI cam to be seized unless the oil pump has packed up, but then a con rod usually goes first. I wonder if the cam belt cover has been taken off for inspection and if not, needs to be done. I would suspect either the belt broken, top cam pulley come loose or off and the cam is only tight due to valve spring pressure. I could be completely wrong and it wouldnt be the first time
