Re: 1990 Yamaha gas lift
With bigger tires you reduce your torque. The spring keeps the rear clutch together at a higher rpm to compensate. If you are on flat land you may be ok but if you try to pull hills you may not like the performance.

Re: 1990 Yamaha gas lift
Well here it is. I believe it is a 89' G2A after inspecting the numbers.

Re: 1990 Yamaha gas lift
Without the spring best you can do is clean and lube both clutches, make sure the belt is new or very close to new. You might try silicone on the ramps I forget what I used, but you don't want to use oil it will collect dirt and wear the shoes.
You can get yamahauler secondary springs that are more than stock without being huge, that will help but I don't know compared to a torque kit. Also don't know how a machined sheave works, I put one on a stock cart and it seemed to have better pulling power but the motor was really weak its getting rebuilt. Also check the motor mounts, if the motor moves towards the trans under torque it kills your takeoff pulling power/climbing power. I've seen broken mounts, broken plates, and G9 the tension cables break. Makes a big difference. If pulled too tight you will lose top speed. I gps mine and kept tightening the tension cable until it went down, backed it off a hair, that really worked out well. The biggest help was machining the ramps down a little, but that is difficult for the typical person to do correctly. Anyway, the better the clutches work the more power you get to the ground. Lastly some have made a spacer out of pvc or something and put it behind the secondary spring. I don't personally like the torque springs they are not made to go in that clutch, but they do work. The problem here is not having a spring in the primary like it should. |

Re: 1990 Yamaha gas lift
After doing some more inspecting, I also noticed the air filter has oil standing in the bottom of it. Was a 89' a oil bath breather????? If not, someone had to have put it in there I'm assuming. This cany be good for getting air to carb

Re: 1990 Yamaha gas lift
If you overfill the oil it will find its way to the airbox, yeah its a mess. If you lift the cart the stick no longer shows the right level. Change the oil and put 1qt in only, check the stick, that is full no matter what it says. It should not pump into the airbox then unless there are other problems.

Re: 1990 Yamaha gas lift
Where did it come through? Carb?
It is not lifted yet, but it will be. I had it on my trailer with the front tires on the ramp the other day washing it, could that have done it? Sorry to be so needy, I have a 04' that I play golf out of and I really have not dealt with anything else. Thanks for all of yaw's help! |

Thanks for posting this. I went and looked last night and they are running a sale on the lift/tire/wheel combo, and if you use the code in the banner ad it comes out under $600 with free shipping. I loaded up a bunch of stuff to work on Dad's g9 and finish my g2. Ordered from them in the past, great company. |
