Ignition systems
Hi everyone, this is my first post and I have a question about the Ignition systems.I would like to now if there is a difference between a g2 and a g14.Here is why I want to know.I bought a g2 a couple of months ago and built it up with new tires ,lift kit, paint, seat covers, back seat kit and so on.(pics to come later)With the holidays coming up quick I decided to buy a reconditioned motor from my local dealer because I didn't have time to rebuild my existing motor. They only had the g14 300cc motor left and told me everything would bolt up and work fine.I added a k&n air cleaner and bigger jet to this motor.Well after maybe 2 hours of run time this motor started smoking(cold starting).I took it back to the dealer to look at and they told me it was because I had this air cleaner on there and that is what caused the damage.(could this be possible)The g14 300cc motor came with a bpr2es spark plug and the g2 motor calls for a br4es.I am getting blamed for this failure so I am trying to get some answers.Sorry for the long post.

Re: Ignition systems
I've been using a BPR2 in my G9 since 2000, it is more resistant to fouling. Mine fouled a lot until I jetted the carb, after hogging the airbox. In fact I could not keep it running long enough to jet it with the old plug.
What is the damage here? The wrong ignition blew the motor? Hard to believe ignition timing or mixture issues would hurt this big monster 10hp motor, it would just run bad. It could run hot but still that sounds suspect. |

Re: Ignition systems
Thank you for the replies.I am using the stock ignition system from the G2.On my first test ride I thought that there was a spark knock type rattle coming from the motor.I then just thought the noise was coming from the clutch. When I called the dealer to tell them that the motor I just bought was smoking they started to blame me for the damage. The list started with "I used premium fuel","I over rev-ed the motor","The K&N air filter did this",and my favorite is "The hose that goes from the valve cover to the air box needs to be there because it lubricates the top end of the motor".This is my local Yamaha golf cart dealer telling me this. They did warranty this motor after some choice words but they told me because I have the K&N air cleaner on there (and vent hose missing)that they would not give a warranty on the replacement motor.
