Default Alltrax XCT48500-DCS Programming for 1996 EZGO TXT, 36V DCS

Greetings from Texas.

Seeking advice (with screen shots?) on programming an Alltrax XCT48500-DCS controller for improved speed (20ish MPH?) with a stock motor in my 1996 EZGO TXT 36V. The solenoid (MZJ-400) and power cables (2 AWG) are also upgraded. Batteries are brand new.

Tires and wheels are stock for now. It is also only a 2-seater, for now.

Flat, street terrain.

Cart is running but exactly the same speed as before I changed the controller. The only 'improvement' is better pedal response when taking off.

If this has already been covered just point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

upping the voltage will give you a speed boost-or larger diameter tires...

36 volts and a DCS motor is a little slower than the PDS but should get to low 20s. Make sure you have field map 3 and everything speed related is turned to 100% except amps. 500 will cook a stock motor. Set that to 80%

The Alltrax can allow higher motor rpms which increases top speed. The default rpm limit is 6000, in the case your stock motor was already reaching 6000 rpm there would be no change. If the case where your battery pack/motor combination are already maxed out there would be no change.
Check the battery pack voltage while the cart is going as fast as it can... better yet hook up a laptop and save a controller monitor file and post it here so we can see what is happening

Are you trying to get ~20MPH, or are you at ~20MPH and want more?

Stock speed for a DCS with stock tires height and gears is about 14MPH and installing an XCT typically kicks the top speed up into the low 20's.

The attached screen saves are from a XCT48400-DCS, so your Max Motor Amps and Max Battery Amps should be set to 500A instead of 400A.

Be sure the Turbo box us checked and the Drive Style selected is Street.

Added info:
Also make sure Enable Speed Limit box is not checked. A DCS does not have a speed sensor on motor, so speed (RPM) limiting doesn't apply.

He has a DCS cart, so RPM setting doesn't apply.

Speed before upgrade was and still is around 13MPH. I want to get to 20MPH, or slightly greater. I realize that if I want more than that I'll likely need to upgrade the motor. Baby steps...

I saw the Turbo box...just wasn't sure and didn't want to burn anything up. I'll try it out and report back.

Thank you!

Slightly off this topic, but...if my cart is 36V, is it possible to add a 7th 6V battery making the pack 42V assuming it fits?
Is there a benefit?
Any 'warnings' to consider?
Any modification required, other than controller programming?

The seventh battery fits nicely in the space in front of the driver side rear wheel well.

You will need a 42V battery charger (Get a DPI Accusense) and an additional high current cable. Hopefully the MZJ400 is the version that works at 36V, 42V and 48V.

Going to 42V will up both the speed and the torque by a bit over 16%.

However, before upgrading to 42V, we need to find out why the cart isn't getting into the low 20's.

Put the Turbo on and retest.
