14hp Briggs conversion
Hey guys, I have the chance to get a 14hp vanguard engine for $150. runs good.
I have a couple questions before I buy it though, what all will I need to install this in my G2??, I know motor mount, but will my stock clutch and things work? also will there be enough of a improvement over the stock engine to warrant the change? |

Re: 14hp Briggs conversion
You can use the stock primary clutch with a $50 taper adapter from CPP.
It is definitely worth the time/money to upgrade. |

Re: 14hp Briggs conversion
Thanks for the reply, So I will need the clutch adapter, and I am assuming that the mount from CPP will also work, Is there anything else I will need to buy?

Re: 14hp Briggs conversion
There is alot to it. You'll have to make the throttle and choke cables work. The vanguard will likely have its own starter and charging circuit so you will need some cables and fuses. May be able to re-use what you have. You will also need a different keyswitch to work with the starter. Probably a different length belt as well. I'm sure there is more that I am forgetting.
Oh, one more thing... You'll probably need to buy new underwear when you realize the difference in torque! |

LOL, sounds like a good project for this next winter, Making the new cables and electrical wiring shouldn't be a problem, Is the key switch I need the one CPP sells for magneto systems??

Re: 14hp Briggs conversion
Not sure which one you are referring to, but you can find a used one out of a garden tractor. It will have 4 positions. OFF/ACC/RUN/START.
The ACC position will also allow you to run the lights. If you find one that came out of a garden tractor with a Briggs motor, that would be ideal. |

Re: 14hp Briggs conversion
If I remember my reading the 14hp and 16hp one of the differences in hp is the restrictors in the exhaust ports, pull those as you will not need them. 89 will guide you the rest of the way.....my .02
