Default Star dies at 50% battery level

Recently, we were out on a long drive in my 2010 Star 4 seater (48V). The battery power LED bar graph on the dash showed just below 50% and the cart died. After getting it towed home, I hooked up the charger (Lester Summit II), and it also showed a 50% charge. Is it normal for the cart to die at this level? If not, what could be the problem? Thanks.

Some bar graph meters reset 100% to whatever the cart was last charged up to. Say te batteries are old or the charger got turned off at 75%, Then the meter would read 50% but the batts would be 37.5%
You can see what I'm getting at. You need a voltmeter gauge. full for 48v is 50.9v and 48v is empty

Understand what you are saying, but the batteries were fully charged prior to leaving (I leave the charger hooked up whenever it's parked). The batteries are about 2 years old. Never thought to check the voltage.... But charger also said 50% charge.
