Re: Leaf spring rubber bushing squeak..any upgrade options?
My rubber bushings are OEM. The initial install will quiet 'em down......I'm guessing it's been some time since I replaced them and it just needs done again.

Re: Leaf spring rubber bushing squeak..any upgrade options?
Dave.....if it really bothers you, or the squeak is that bad.....a permanent solution would be use stock bushings, but take the bolts and drill a small hole down the center about half way, then cross drill a hole. put a grease zirk in the head. that way once in a while you can actually grease the bushings from the outside. Piece of Cake!!

Re: Leaf spring rubber bushing squeak..any upgrade options?
Still considering a different approach to the bushing squeak thing.
Now, measurements of the factory rubber bushings are OD-7/8 or .875, ID-9/16 or .5625. I've "found" a place that sells sealed bearings that are sized OD-7/8, ID-3/8 or .375. And these are flanged bearings. https://www.vxb.com/FR6-2RS-Flanged-...-p/kit8516.htm Now, other than needing a smaller diameter bolt (which would need to be high quality), can anyone see a major flaw with attempting to replace these? |

Re: Leaf spring rubber bushing squeak..any upgrade options?
Dave, my riding mower eats up front axle bushing, or at least used to.
OEM bushing is some sort of plastic and wouldn't last a season. The bronze aftermarket bushings lasted much longer but still wore pretty quick and let the wheels get wobbly. I found a roller bearing kit a couple years ago and that did the trick. The axle bushing and spring bushing do about the same job mechanically, so I'm pretty sure using roller bearings will solve your problems. |

Re: Leaf spring rubber bushing squeak..any upgrade options?
Well....after further reading of these bearings they are a "electric" engine type of bearing. Good for "spinny things" and likely not so good for impact things.
So, got some Silicon spray and after a few squirts the squeak is gone.....for now. This may be a temp fix.....but much less $$ to find out the bearings won't stand up to the pounding. I'll just live with needing to spray it up now 'n then. |
