ezgo charger battery question
I have a 96 ezgo medalist which had a bad f/r switch. I replaced all wiring 2 4 gauge wiring, and replaced f/r switch. I have new golf cart batteries and my question is whats the voltage per battery when fully charged?
My charger will not turn off. This happend with my old batteries also. I have a powerwise charger and as soon as you plug it up it hums. So I check to see If it had voltage before I plugged it up and it does(I think it was 45 volts) So I charged for 17 hours of course I feel the sides and they are not hot and I also feel the cables and they are fine. The charger says 5amps remaing. I went ahead unplugged charger and checked battery voltage. each battery read 7 volts, and the pack read 42volts. Is this 2 high? or should I charge more? |

Re: ezgo charger battery question
Let the pack settle for a couple of hours and then recheck the voltages. The numbers you provided sound like readings from the surface charge. This will dissipate with time.
Check all of your cables/terminals. I know you said new, but it only takes one to muck it up. It is not uncommon for new batteries to take a long time to charge. 17 hours seems a bit much tho'. I'd also check the specific gravity in each cell. It is also not unheard of to get a bad battery. Good luck. |

Re: ezgo charger battery question
Thanks for the reply
I just charged them overnight this past weekend, and the charger was still on 5 amps then also. I drove the cart for 1.5 to 2 hours @ my campground and recharged the cart last night for 16-17 hours. My other batteries did the same thing, it would never get off of 5 amps, but I could ride the cart with no problems. my new batteries have prob. 10 rides on them. also I had the same problem when I first installed the batteries and went thru the samething and the guys on the forums decided I shouldnt do anything else until I replaced my cables, so I just replaced them. My cables are fine I just put new ones on and double checked everything. Now for the charger. I thought my charger wasn't supose to kick on unless you had it plugged up to the cart? My charger has a hum as soon as it turns on, and it has voltage as soon as you plug it into the wall. I'm thinkin I have a bad charger. Is there a board or somethin that tells it to kick on and off? |

Re: ezgo charger battery question
If the transformer of your Powerwise is engaging and outputting voltage BEFORE you plug it into the cart, something is wrong with the charger.

Re: ezgo charger battery question
Thats What I thought. Thats why I was wondering if I could monitor the batteries with a volt meter until I can get my charger fixed. Thanks Gorno!!! At full charge what would each battery need to be? I know you are supose to baby new batteries to make them last.
Also if my charger comes on I'm assuming there should be some type of cut off board in the charger that needs to be replaced. Does anyone know what the part is called and maybe a part number? |

Re: ezgo charger battery question
OK HERE"S THE BATTERY READING AFTER 2 hours unplugged
The 3 batteries on the right side Each read 6.7 VOLTS The 3 Batteries on the Left side:Each read 6.69 VOLTS Why would the 3 on left be .01 off? Also I did a complete rebuild on this cart and I have pics of everything. I replaced body with a 04 plastic, installed new dash, windshield, Cargo bed, Added 4 inch lift, 12 inch rims(waiting on tires), New stock motor, New Stock Controller, 4 gauge wire, battery meter, radio, lights and working on my lights for the roof. So should I start a new post or do it here of the rebuild? |

Re: ezgo charger battery question
Those are great numbers for a charge. Don't sweat the .01 volt difference.
