Gel battery voltages
Thus far I've only owned Club Cars and Yamahas, and I've always had wet cell batteries. I just came across a deal that I couldn't pass up on a GEM car. It is a 72V pack made of 6x12 gel batteries.
The dashboard of the cart has a gauge that indicates "charge percentage". I'm assuming that is SoC. I'm in the process of charging it for the first time and the gauge has gotten to 94%. Out of curiosity I put a voltmeter on the pack and was shocked to see that it read 91.3 volts! (15.2 volts per battery). To those of you that know anything about gel batteries does that seem normal? A quick search on the web led me to believe that 100% SoC on gels is just under 13 volts. Does it make sense that the pack is reading so high because it is presently being charged? TJ |

Update: I left it on the charger overnight and this morning the charger had finished. The pack voltage is 79.3V. 13.21V seems a lot more reasonable.
