Default 1983 2 stroke issue

I have a 1983 Marathon,I am new to cart ownership, how fast should I expect it to go? Also the cable that goes over to the clutch, what exactley is that suppose to do,as I don't see it doing anything and if I unhook it at the carb, the cart seems to go just fine, never messed with a setup like this..thanks for your help...Kurt

That cable that runs over to your clutch is either hooked to your governor, or was hooked to it. It keeps Joe Schmoe on the golf course from over revving and burning up the carts.

A good top speed for one of these would be around 15 MPH. Some go faster, some not quite as fast.

thanks for the info,I don't see how the arm that rubs on the clutch and the cable is hooked to and goes to the carb works,I hate to spend 70.00 on a manual if it doesnt cover this setup,I am pretty good with mechanics on autos and bikes, but this is a first for me.I have not clocked this cart yet,I would say a guess would be around 12 to 14 mph as it is,bone stock,so can I remove the arm and cable as long as I make sure no one is abusing the hell out of it,it will be driven only by me and my wife, maybe my mother too( I don't think I need to worry about her though, she is 74)
