Default GM 6.2 versus duramax?

Time for a new truck. I was planning on getting a Denali 3/4 ton4wd with a duramax, but can get a 1500 Denali with a six speed auto 2wd and the new 6.2 for a pretty good price. Both are loaded to the hilt, and I hear the 6.2 is a hot motor? I have an 07 half ton z71 on 35's right now but honestly I think all the 4wd and big tires does is get me stuck further back in the woods and cost alot more to get pulled out. Does anyone here have the 6.2 if so how do you like it? I sm thinking it might be nice to go with a more sporty 2wd for a change, and the six speed auto in the half ton is supposed to be sufficient for pulling my boat and box trailer. Anyone with experience? I do have an 82 4wd so it wouldn't be like I am totally without a mud toy.

The Duramax will beat the gasser in a drag race and kill it in towing.......................Duramax all the way!!

diesel= higher fuel cost, usually higher cost to purchase, higher maint cost
gasser= wont pull the load the D max will

1/2 ton pulling a box trailer???? only if its a small box...remember more to trailer pulling than just getting it moving, you have to stop it and be able to react quick at times...where a 1/2 ton might not be the smartest choice

I own a D max and love it....just so all you oil burner lovers don't think I'm bashing the D Max

The only thing I would argue about this is that the Duramax will get twice the fuel mileage of the 6.2, so the overall fuel cost is actually lower with the Diesel. The cost of a diesel truck, with everything else being equal, will always be more. The good side is, the higher initial cost of the diesel is almost a push when it comes time to sell. The diesel will hold it's value better than a gas engine.

In regards to towing, a 1/2 ton truck would be more than adequate to tow a box trailer, depending on the overall weight of course. I think the 1/2 tons are tow rated for around 10,000 pounds, give or take. HOWEVER, there is no comparison between the two. The Duramax is twice the engine. It will outperform the 6.2 liter gas engine in every category.

While the 6-speed transmission in the Denali is appealing, the Duramax will provide you with an Allison. Again, twice the transmission IMO.....Cost aside, my vote would be the Diesel truck hands down.

There isn't anything to compare! There is no comparison! Towing or not, the modern diesel makes gas obsolete.

I've had my Duramax for 10 yrs. I haven't spent .10 on the diesel part of it. Other than oil and filters, I havent spent $1000. on the whole truck in 10 yrs. $700. of this was on wheel bearings.

The Allison is smarter than most people.

Another owner!

Though I am a powerstroke junkie, the duramax is twice the truck of the 6.2, the annual maint. cost of a diesel will be higher but will payout in the life of the truck.

Keep the oil changed in a Diesel, and it will run forever. Get the Diesel.
