Re: IRS Tax Form 8936
GUNNY is correct, here is the Link http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/article...169726,00.html to the IRS page that shows the release date.
I have been doing word searches for anything related to "8936" and "electric drive" and have found several documents that discuss this. Pub 17 shows the most. It is brief, but says that you are elegible for this credit if you placed the vehicle in service in 2009. It doesn't say anything about the date aquired. I want to advise everyone that they shouldn't read into the words. But make sure you wait until 8936 is actually released in two days because I believe that we have a good chance that we will be able to take the credit in 2009. Just my unofficial opinion and you know what they say about opinions...everyone has one and they all stink! |

Re: IRS Tax Form 8936
This all makes sense now. My E-file online software was preventing me from completing my tax return. It kept throwing this alert :
---- This return includes Form 8936 - Qualified Plug-in Electric Drive Motor Vehicle Credit. When this software program was released, Form 8936 was not available from the IRS. The final Form 8936 will be included in a future software update. ---- Will check the program later next week to see if they have released. |

Re: IRS Tax Form 8936
according to zone electric, where i purchased mine online, the credit goes with 'acquired' date, not 'placed in service' date. That is critical. I hope the IRS gets it right on the form. I'm a CPA so what I would do is file the credit, and attach a statement saying that the car was acquired on such and such a date, and that according to the code, the credit is available when a vehicle is 'acquired' regardless of the date placed in service. By the time the IRS challenges it, another year will have passed, and if denied tax returns could be amended moving the credit from 2009 to 2010 (which will have been filed by then) resulting in no net change in tax.
