Default Kawasaki FE290

Hi everyone.
I have a 2001 Kawasaki mule 550, it has the Kawasaki FE290 engine in it, and i know some of the golf cars have that engine in it. i just got through rebuilding it and was wondering if there any modifications to give it a little more pep, or help it run better.
Thanks.

Not without another rebuild. There are options for camshafts, higher compression pistons, larger valves...
You can probably do an adjustable coil timing plate, but that’s about it unless you do major internal mods.

You can replace the flywheel key with a timing advance key that has an offset in it to advance the timing some. This will give you a little more pep on the acceleration but not any gain on the top end. While you have it out that would be no additional work.
