Default Trouble shooting a intermittent starting issue on a 1990 3pg

I gave my father a 1990 ezgo with the 3pg 2 stroke a few years ago. Im not near the cart ad wont be for a few days. Hes been complaining that it's been starting but not going (Like the starter motors turns the engine but not firing) but he said this happens randomly and some times its fine. Ive replaced the carb and coil on this cart in the past. The issue sounds fuel or spark. Just looking for some pointers.

First thing to do is when the cart isn't starting turn it over for a bit and then pull the spark plug seeing it's dry it wet if it's wet it's ignition issue if it's dry it's fuel issue then we can go from there

I had a similar problem with my '92. I ended up and took the starter/gen off, cleaned the armature and changed the brushes and then it was fine. I don't know why this helped, not any mechanic by any means but it did.

I just talked to him and and he said the plug was dry. Sparks good. He said it wont start in forward and only in reverse. (The starter is turning both ways just fine. Engine only fires in reverse) I will check compression tomorrow. What numbers should I look for forward and reverse?
Carb is clean.
He had the fuel line off and its shooting fuel. But ive read a torn diaphragm would still pump fuel)
I will check this tomorrow as well.
If my compression is fine could the crank seals be bad?
