My Medalist Build.
Ok, starting my build thread. 1995 new to me basket case medalist. Picked it up non running after sitting outside for 2 years. Guy said he had put a high speed motor in it (it has been worked on by a company called ⚡️Letric motor company), a heavy duty Fwd/Rev switch, but could never get it to run.
So he let it sit. And the batteries were shot. I picked it up for $600. Probably over paid, but I put 3 of a friends 12v golf cart batteries in it, got it wired correctly, pulled the fwd/rev switch apart and cleaned all the contacts real good, reassembled and off she flew. Does about 19-20 on flat ground and slows to 10 up a pretty good size hill. Now the sickness has set in and I’m off to the races. Starting frame up rebuild with a 2014+ TXT body. Parts purchased so far: New brake drums, shoes, and cable New shocks all around. New leaf spirng bushings Built all new 2ga cables New windshield New bearings front and back New street legal light kit New floor mat Last edited by Jds1971; 09-20-2022 at 04:08 PM.. Reason: Adding purchased parts list |

Re: My Medalist Build.
Frame stripped down and ready for prep and POR and paint. I don’t think the rust is too bad. Nothing that can be managed. Thoughts from those that have been there and done that?

Always tickles me when people throw in the towel on such "barely broken" things. Here in Peachtree City, you could probably flip that with just the work you've done for double plus new batteries. I'm working on my first cart, and planning on doing what I did on my Jeep. Lift the body off the frame and get the entire frame stripped down to bare metal. Then prep it well/use an enamel based coating to seal the entire thing. I guess it depends on how deep the rust goes and how long you're planning on keeping it whether to strip or use converter. |

Re: My Medalist Build.
Wow, you got a deal! A non-runner that looks mediocre or better is a thousand bucks if you can find it where I live.
Even better that you were able to get it running quickly! That's fantastic. Looking at your list you are on the right path. The only thing I can think of is that with the rear seat your standard duty leaf spring may not be enough. I have 'Dual Action' springs so they act like normal springs when nobody is on the back and they act like HD springs when people are there. So the ride is better than HD springs. It's been a while but they weren't that much. Good call on the bushings too! Funny, even when you buy new springs they don't ship with bushings... How dumb is that? The other thing is make sure you hit all the zerk fittings up front with grease. If you have any looseness in your steering it's probably because it hasn't been greased since 1995 |

Re: My Medalist Build.
Thanks for the advice. I think looking at the rear leaf springs, they are the heavy duty ones already.

Re: My Medalist Build.
You are correct sir. That's an HD spring. Any time you see 4 leaves that's an HD spring.

Re: My Medalist Build.
Getting closer. Wife will be happy when she gets her side of the garage back.
Frame is all cleaned, rust treated, and painted. Firewall and floorboard tins are painted. Rear axle and motor cleaned and painted. New brake cable, brakes and rear bearings installed. New tires mounted. All electrics installed and functionality verified. I put it back together right! Only a couple left over pieces. |
