No forward no reverse
Working on a friend's 94 DS 48v cart, FSIP 500a controller.
He said cart wouldn’t work then it would lunge, did this a couple times, then nothing. Batteries are fully charged and in good condition. Solenoid clicks and shows pack voltage. Checked resistance on motor and was good, applied 12v to motor and it works. Controller M and B- reads pack voltage when pedal depressed and stays at pack voltage when fully depressed, instead of decreasing, but I have read of at least two other instances on here of others doing the same but controller was fine. I get pack voltage when checking the terminals on the FNR switch, but don't know if that is the correct way to check it. I have been unable to find details on here how to check the V-glide. Thank you |

Re: No forward no reverse
I would remove the F/R switch and take it apart. Compress the spring and remove the pin , then clean the brass contacts and check for any deforming of the plastic. With a 500 amp controller the switch may have failed from the extra amps and may not be a good Heavy duty one. I have seen the connectors melt a 1/16" into the rotating block from the heat.

Re: No forward no reverse
Surely there is a way to properly test the FNR vs taking it apart?

Re: No forward no reverse
It's not real easy to test a FNR. To work, it requires excellent connections that can handle the high motor current. Taking it apart and examining / cleaning up the contacts is a good idea.

Re: No forward no reverse
Took it apart and all looks good contacts were shiny, I used a fine SOS pad on them anyway. contacts stand proud and do not recess. Spring seems to be plenty strong as it was a pain to hold it in while putting the pin back in.

Re: No forward no reverse
That large red wire on the right in that picture looks like it has less than perfect contact at the crimp. It's hard to tell from the pic but it sure looks like only part of the copper is crimped and the rest are frayed. If there are more like that in that setup it may be a problem?
