Custom buggy motor/controller suggestions
My son and i are in the process of building a custom alum. frame built buggy to be powered with a golf cart components. it will look kind of like a small sand rail but to be ridden in fields and country roads we’re using a rear end out of a Chevy s-10 truck with a 5.32 gear. we have a way to mate a Elec motor to a 4 speed manual trans with a first gear final gearing of close to 32:1, 2nd gear 19:1
with 3rd gear/final gearing used of 9.10:1. the total weight with a 48v battery set up we figure at around 1700 with people included. would be running 25-27" tall tires Can any one recommend a Controller/Motor to use? like to stay 48v but can/will look at 72 v if needed does controllers like navitas figure your high speed limits off the speed sensor on the motors or some type of GPS signal? i ask because if I’m running a transmission the motor speeds would change with the changing of gears going from 1st to 2nd and so on. I do not intend to use the 4th gear on the trans as it would be 1:1 and know that would put to much stain on the system but 3rd final gearing being just over 9:1 it should do good on flat ground. Looking for suggestions and best place to get pricing. PS I am looking at A/C and like to have regen breaking |

Here are a couple of the BGW site sponsors who should be able to help you out with your build. Both are highly respected in providing good technical advice and pricing for special builds like your.

Re: Custom buggy motor/controller suggestions
Have you tried the businesses that supply the components for custom electric cars ect. It would seem you are pushing the envelope for golf cart sized components, especially if you want decent performance fro your fairly heavy setup.

Re: Custom buggy motor/controller suggestions
Any progress on this?
I would go with a used warp 9. I was able to run it off a navitas tsx 72600 controller. It lacked the power I wanted though. Ended up going with a zeva mc1000 and doubling the voltage for 146v @ 1000amps. Now it will melt tires and go about 70mph. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |
