how much pressure should the gas line have. i removed the gas line from the carb, and cranked the engine. gas doesnt seem like it comes out with much pressure.

ok, got it to start. the only way it will run is if you keep the choke pulled out all the time. does this mean its not getting enough fuel?

It usually means that the air filter canister is leaking air causing it to run lean. Air canister needs to be sealed (assembled correctly so it doesn't suck air). Take the canister out of the car and assemble it on your work bench making sure its put together correctly.
Should make it run better. If not then its a dirty carb. or possible cracked plastic intake manifold between carb. and head.
Hope I'm right on a 16?!!
