Default Disconnected Rev Limiter for 5 minutes...

I did the zip tie mod about a month ago and has been running perfect. Went from 12 to 19 mph with the mod. So I decided to disconnected the Rev Limiter for one short run to see what kind of speed I would get. Hit 27 mph on the GPS. Went back and reconnected the ground wire for the rev limiter.

Today I go for a ride and at 1/2 throttle (on the gas pedal), the rev limiter is kicking in. So I decided to remove the zip tie so it should be just like stock again and I'm still hitting the rev limiter at 1/2 throttle. Thought maybe the rev limiter needs to be reset, so I disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes. That didn't do anything.

No linkages were adjusted or anything else was done, just disconnected it for a 500 foot pass and then reconnected it. Also seems like the rev limiter is kicking in at a higher RPM, but that could just be me. Don't have a tach to check it either. Other than hitting the rev limiter as 1/2 throttle, the engine runs fine.

Its a 2006 CC and is completely stock.

Any ideas as to what is causing this or how to fix it?

Could there be something wrong with the governor? Not sure how the governor actutally works. Isn't the governor supposed to limit the throttle? I believe I used to see the governor move by itself when the pedal was pressed and adjust the throttle, but I don't see that happening any more. What do I need to check for this?

First off...

Don't continually hit the rev limiter, it'll eventually wreck your engine!

Next... check to make sure your govenor spring isn't binding or hooking on itself...
The spring should stretch, running or not!

And if all else checks out O.K.... it may be a possability that the bolt on the govenor lever arm was a little loose,
and caused your govenor to readjust itself! (from when you had the zip tie on)
and if that's the case... you'll have to readjust the govenor shaft, to the govenor lever arm!

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the quick reply, this has been bothering me all day and the kids want to ride.

The governor spring looks fine and is stretching like it supposed to.

Do you mean adjust the shaft that the governor arm attaches to?? Any idea which way the arm needs to be adjusted?

You should get a Maintenance Service repair manual...

Hopefully, by the time you get it... you won't need it,
but... It'll help someone else!

I do plan to get a service manual. Just don't find anyone online that has one for an '06. The latest I see online is 2002, but someone else told me that I just have to call to order it.

I ordered mine through my CC dealer 2 weeks after I bought my cart... new!
(That was before I knew of all of BGW's fine sponsors!)

I'm sure they can order them for you... but, you have to call them!
