Default Cart Speed Issue

Not sure what happened, but yesterday I was driving my club car precedent in a straight-away street at full speed (about 28-30mph) when suddenly it made a loud hiss and immediately slowed down to about 10mph. I drove another quarter mile to get home.

I turned the lithium battery off, then back on to see if maybe it needed something to be reset. It didn’t work because now it goes 18-20mph full speed.

Any idea what it could be?

Sounds like the Motor was over-revved and it’s toast now. The stock motor isn’t capable of running 30mph unless you’re running high speed gears.

I’m going to have it checked out next week. Just odd that I’ve had it for 2 years and never had a problem.

Also just checked the invoice from when I bought it. Says EMP upgraded motor.

Check for maximum RPM of the motor. Upgraded means more windings and more HP but not necessarily more RPM.

Then calculate your tire size by rear axle radio and speed to see what rpm the motor was spinning. My guess is too fast.

You may get away with it for a while but all it takes is once. Centrifugal force is a bit…

How does it still work? Wouldn’t that make it blow entirely to where it wouldn’t run?

Not always, no. Sometimes it will and sometimes it will do exactly what you’re describing. I recall there was someone else here recently with a plum quick motor and the same description of what happened and what the symptoms were.

Best bet is to remove the motor and look at it. You’ll probably see the damage

Edit: found it here https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=183923

Thanks CP241

I just talked to the person who built the cart. He had me go under the cart to check cables to the motor. Everything check out…no burned wires. Also everything looks fine with the motor itself and no burn smell. He said it might be a controller issue. Either way he’s picking it up Tuesday to take a look.

Definitely motor issue. Replaced it, got some maintenance done, now runs great. They’re sending the bad motor back to EMP to see what was wrong with it.
