robin model eh29c engine
Hello, I have an old EH29C golf cart engine. The owner said it lost power and had a lot of metal in the oil. Needs rebuilding but, it's going to cost a lot and I'm sure I'll have the cylinders bored and crankshaft turned. Is there a compatible engine that will work with the golf cart (don't have a make or model). Is there a compatible motor I can buy to replace it?

Vegascarts would be worth a call IF you are looking to do an engine swap. Either a 390-460 single cylinder or a HF 670 Vtwin.

Re: robin model eh29c engine
It's a common thought that replacing an engine is the cheapest option, but it's not. There is no other engine that will bolt in place without any other modifications and costs. Your "cheapest" option is to rebuild the engine yourself. The fact is engine work and swaps are not cheap and you get what you pay for with this kind of thing.
Here is my thread about big block engine swaps.... https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=172255 Otherwise here are some options.... 1. Call Motors and More in Appling, GA and have the engine rebuilt. I have done business with them and so have many other members, good reputation. No modification neccessary. They will send you an engine box. You send it UPS and they send it back to you a week or two later. Bolt it in and go. Will cost you between $700-$1100 rough estimate. 2. Buy a complete engine swap kit for your cart, if available. Will come with everything you need to do the job, sometimes engine is not included. Mostly bolt in job, some wiring may be needed. Estimated cost $1500-$2500. Sometimes a lift kit is needed to fit the engine. You can call Cart Parts Plus to see if a kit is available, check our "Sponsors" page. Some of our other sponsors will also have parts you may need. 3. Assemble an engine swap kit yourself. Motor mount, clutch, belt, wiring, key switch, exhaust, muffler, hardware, lift kit. Some fabrication and wiring is needed. Cost $800-$1500 approximately, depending how much fab you do and what engine you buy. 4. Buy a good used engine. Approximate cost $250-$800 if you can find one. You can post in the "parts" section. The bad thing about this is you just don't know what kind of quality engine you will be getting. Did the previous owner(s) do all the required maintenance? How long will it last? Does it have any issues? If you get lucky enough to find one in a cart that is running, you might be able to make a better decision. If you find one from a salvage dealer they might give you a 30 day warranty. Keep in mind the costs here are not written in stone and can be different from market to market. Your mechanical ability is the limiting factor. If you have to hire someone to do the work for you it will cost a lot more. |
