Default V Twin Rear End Questions

I have a 93 CC in which I installed a mildly modified Briggs V Twin six or seven years ago. The engine is starting to act up; I am deciding between pulling it out and digging into it to determine what's going on; my thought now is that maybe the cam has worn down. I have a Harley Davidson Sportster engine I have been considering installing in it and adding a gear stick and clutch. The question is, Can I modify, rebuild, or replace the rear axle to expect a chain drive? Has anyone seen a rear axle similar to what is being described?? And hopefully, I didn't put this in the wrong post.

You might want to look in the ATV Bike swap section for ideas.

It is spitting and spurting when accelerant to the mid-range, It doesn't do it every time but 7 out of 10 times. It also uses oil but isn't smoking. I replaced the Nikki 6100 carburetor with a Chinese one that is the same, and it continues to spit. I also think it may be a little lean, but I can't find any info on jet work on those carburetors. I only run ethanol-free gas and have cleaned the carburetor with an ultrasonic cleaner.

I had my input shaft machined for a different driven clutch I don't see why it cannot be machined to fit a sproket
