Larger Tires?
Hello People,
I am restoring a 1985 and soon I will need to buy 4 new tires. Currently it has the standard 18x8.5x8 but looking at the room in the wheel arches it looks like maybe I could fit something slightly bigger without having to use a lift kit. So my question is, has anyone fitted a bigger tire, such as 20x8.5x8 into a mid 80's EZGO without lifting it? Thanks and best regards D Box |

Re: Larger Tires?
You are correct Stovebolt but I need to keep an eye on the bottom line. I got the cart for free but....... $400 on engine rebuild kit...... $400 on two new clutches..... $$$$$ on various miscellaneous bits now $200 ish on 20x11x8 tires. I guess anything bigger will need new wheels plus the cost of the lift kit. I think I will pass but I sure appreciate your opinion.

Re: Larger Tires?
Dave, I built my 3" rear lift for my 87 EZGO with one section of angle iron, four sections of flat steel, & 2 sections of square tubing.
The front lift was achieved by cutting the kingpin welds and rewelding them pointing down below the axle instead of above it. This entire operation took a weekend - 1 day measuring & drawing, 1 day cutting-drilling-welding-installing. There are people here far more knowledgeable than me that might have better ideas. This worked for me, hope it does for you. |

Re: Larger Tires?
Hey guys, Thank you for your comments. After some consideration and careful measurement I found some 22x11x8 all terrain tires mounted on powder black rims. Last night I fitted them and they have exactly the look I wanted. Then I discovered my big mistake. As you can see I have removed the front of the cart and when the front is back on the clearance is considerably smaller. Ooops. Oh well looks like I will be fitting a lift kit. The good news is that I have seen one for $75, unless Brush Creek wants to pack his torches and head for sunny Virginia.
