I have some more pics. I'm determined not to lift this cart.i am going to put a 20.5" tire on it which should raise it just a little bit.
I have not purchased anything for this build yet.everything was laying around that I had or reused.
I raised the seat 2".still gotta make it look nice.
Also made a link for the front of cradle out of a f250 sway bar link that I shortened.

I like the idea of leaving the cart stock looking. If you dress that seat lift up you won't even notice it.

One thought. Unless you install high speed gears without a lift kit your tire size is going to be limited. You top speed will be also be limited.

My plan is a 20.5 size tire. I don't care about speed at all.just want the impressive torque.

One more question. Does anyone think it would be a problem to have the crank turned to 3/4" and run a spacer to get it to 1". The nose of the crank at skinny part of taper is only 3/4" so it would have to be built up by welding it to 1" and then machined to 1". Just afraid welding it will cause it to be warped.

I found out today that the vanguard use a forged steel crank so any welding is easily done compared to cast iron.

How about just buying a 1" crank? Have you looked into the cost on that? I know there are some members here that stockpile some of these parts, you might be able to get a good crank used from them.

Try posting a thread in the parts section asking about a 1" crank for your engine.

Well the local welding and machine shop at the college is supposed to take care of it for me.price is hard to beat being free and all. A new crank is about 350

Made a pulley for the starter generator to crank the vanguard.generally these are for farm equipment called a w pulley.
I couldnt find center hub that was narrow enough.i ended up using a collar for a 1" hydraulic cylinder that I was able to weld into the pulley and file a 1/4" keyway slot into it. Little work but at $16 hard to beat.
