82 club car goes wide open without key on!!
I aquired an 82 Club car 48v today. Test drive went good, when I got it home driving around the yard it just stopped. After some checking I found the ground from the last battery had a bare spot that grounded against the solenoid on the far right. I replaced the wire and then switched it in reverse and it took off like a rocket. ( I was stand next to it not good). I did get it stopped and realized it does it weather the key is off or on. This is my first electric cart so not sure where to start. Thanks in advance!!

Re: 82 club car goes wide open without key on!!
Also after a little research I found that this thing should have 6- 8 volt batteries and the guy I got it from has 4 - 12 volt marine batteries in it. Don't know if this will create any problems.

Golf cart batteries are in your near needs. Others will help on the other problem.

4 x 12 will work but you need decent golf cart batteries not marine batteries. That is not causing your problem though.

82 and 48 don't mix, unless the cart has been upgraded...

I'm not sure what it has for a motor but I will look tomorrow. I do know it jumps hard off the line and spins the tire on dry pavement.

Re: 82 club car goes wide open without key on!!
1 solenoid or more is welded closed
this is more than likely due to the 48v your cart is wired for full voltage in reverse you need to strip out the 12v batteries and get six 6v golf cart batteries then you can replace all your solenoids did he give you a 48v charger ? Seems like we need the serial number on this one, also some photos of battery area would help.
