1992 Cub Car DS 36 Volt... The cart is just the start
Greetings,
Recently I have pulled two Club Cars back to life from half in the grave. one being a 1992 DS 36 Volt and the other being a 1999 DS 48 Volt. Both of which are solid state carts with speed controllers. After Chasing wires for hours and memorizing multiple wiring schematics, I have finally got the 36 volt working well. The 48 is in a little rougher condition so I may hold off until spring to get it going. I have read many different posts from this forum and have found it a wonderful resource. The cart I would plan on keeping would be the 36 volt because it is in nicer condition. The question I have (as any NooB Golf Cart owner would) is what should I do next? I am not satisfied with the 10-12 mph the cart does and would eventually like to lift it. I would be interested in a back seat and larger tires. I purchased brand new batteries for it so scrapping those isnt a option at this time. Controller? motor? looking forward to the response.... ScottyB, you seem to be the R.E., I would have sent you a PM but due to my new membership I wasnt able to |

To get more speed, upping the voltage to 48V is the easiest/fastest way. The stock 36V motor will come to life on 48V.
The other way would be to get a motor built for speed or change the gears. You could always get taller tires, but that'll sacrifice torque. |

In order to handle the additional voltage, you would need to upgrade to a 48V controller, 200a solenoid, 4ga or 2ga cables and HD FNR switch. Sounds like a lot, but believe me, it would be well worth it if you planned on keeping this cart. |

Re: 1992 Cub Car DS 36 Volt... The cart is just the start
I have the 48 volt club car as well that possibly could be a donor parts cart. if I upgraded the cart to 48 volts could I use the 48 volt controller off the other cart along with the FNR switch? I have already upgraded the cables to 4ga. one thing i did notice is that the 36volt controller was rated for higher amps than the 48 volt.

I didn’t think CC ever made a 36 v cart with a solid state controller. Especially in ‘92. Could it have been upgraded?

That’s new to me. I thought all their 36v systems were resistors.

Re: 1992 Cub Car DS 36 Volt... The cart is just the start
I've seen some pretty fast 36 carts
That said. Yea , you have some other options: use the 48 V controls in the 36V if they mount ok Or put the 36 V motor in the 48V cart, some better other parts may fit too PIE P=IE P. .. Power (Watts) = I(amps) x E(volts) Same amps, 48V will have more power |
