Torque motor options for 88 marathon
I am looking to upgrade the motor in my cart but I am unsure what motor I should pick. I have an 88 ezgo marathon. It has a lift, 23 inch tires and a back seat. The terrain I drive is hilly. I am at 48 volts and have converted to solid state with a 500 amp alltrax controller. All wiring is 2 awg. I would like to be able to go 15-20 mph. Which series motor should I go with? I would like it to be a torquey motor due to the terrain I drive and the load I carry. But I also don't want it to be slower than 15 mph.

Re: Torque motor options for 88 marathon
What is your top speed currently? With 48V and 23" tires you should already be well beyond 15mph... Are your brakes dragging? Do you have any high current cables that get hot after you run it a bit? I think the rule of thumb was that no cables should be 10 degrees or more warmer than ambient temp.
Is your Alltrax one of the newer ones that you can connect a laptop to? Maybe it is thinking you never hit full throttle? If you connect a laptop to it you can read the data while you are driving. |

Re: Torque motor options for 88 marathon
I have not run it at 48v yet. I finished installing the conversion kit. But I have been busy installing the stereo, back seat,
voltage reducer and a light bar. Then I will drop in the 8 volt batteries. At 36 volts it was running only 10-12 mph. |

Re: Torque motor options for 88 marathon
I would go for the "beast" motor (7124) and run on 48V.
This is my setup with 10" tires. I have the altrax SPM-72650 (obsolete now) I am using 12s6p (6 module3 in series and 3 modules in parallel) nissan modules gen 2. It goes plenty fast enough for me and has lots of range. |
