Engine Replacement ??
I have a friend that has a 1981 EZ-Go 2 cycle which is really bogging down when under load. Flies down the hill but barely makes it back up the street. He has tested out fuel pressure, compression (120) and removed exhaust. He is getting ready to fork over around $300 for someone to rebuild the engine. Does this sound like the engine needs to be rebuilt or is there an engine he could buy to replace it?
You can find cheap 4-cycle engines but since it is a 2-cycle and uses the engine direction for forward and reverse, what are his options? |

Re: Engine Replacement ??
If the compression is 120 in both direction I would question having it rebuilt.

Re: Engine Replacement ??
I was questioning that too. What would be causing the low power problem? What else can be checked?

Re: Engine Replacement ??
To prevent him from wasting his money, what can we do to go down through the list to start testing these out to start eliminating the possibilities?
How can you test the clutches? What the heck are reed valves? Way over our heads but willing to learn. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Ruredy, you were in another discussion that sounds similar to this. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-e...mpression.html.
How can we blow smoke into it to test? |

Re: Engine Replacement ??
2-cycle engines need a muffler. The muffler creates a scavenging affect that draws the spent fuel/oil mix out and helps draw the new fuel/oil mix in. You may have other issues but you really need the muffler.

Re: Engine Replacement ??
So would it be correct then that if there is no difference in power with muffler on/off that there may be a problem with the muffler? If so, would the BBQ method improve performance or is a new muffler the only option? I'm having similar problems with uphill performance and think that it might be due to the same problem. Thanks.
