motor clearance G29
I have noticed that there maybe be a problem installing a larger motor on the Yamaha g29. I know the larger motors are longer. That works ok for me because I have a 6 inch lift but what is the difference in diameter between the stock motor and the high torque motors??? Thanks for your help.

Re: motor clearance G29
Diameter is the same in general amongst all golf cart motors, length is the concern on a Yamaha, longer motors risk hitting the coil spring on the passenger side.

Re: motor clearance G29
Thanks CG , It maybe a simple question but it is important in ordering the right motor. Thanks again

Re: motor clearance G29
Thank you CG.
I have a 2010 48v G29 project cart (currently a rolling chasis); can anyone point me in the right direction on ways they've modified their rear suspension (rear passenger shock/coil mount) to fit the larger motor? I've got a MadJax 6" HD lift with HD coils from Jakes, currently looking at a D&D motor, and cannot see a longer motor going in there without hitting/rubbing up against the coil.... from the corner of my stock motor to the HD coil is maybe 1/2" thanks in advance |

Re: motor clearance G29
I've alternated the rear bracket on the lift kit, to fit a bigger engine.
I cut the rear bracket in half and connect them in an slightly different angle using another self-made bracket to get the clearance. |

Re: motor clearance G29
i did the navitas DC to AC conversion kit and the motor contacted the passennger shock. bent the lift bracket and created about 1mm of clearance i may have to cut and weld at a different angle also but i am going through testing right now to see if it makes contact while riding

Re: motor clearance G29
When that spring smashes that encoder (at the worst possible location), its gonna leave you stranded.

Re: motor clearance G29
Just a thought from an old guy. Get longer bolts and collars/spacers for inside the shock mounts and mount the shock on the rearward side of the brackets.

Re: motor clearance G29
thanks for the advise guys. i was also given the same advise from the navitas tech support. they were very helpful.
I was instructed to rotate the motor so the shock doest hit the speed sensor. and i opened up the shock mount and added some washers to space the shock back a little. did manage to get about 3-4mm or spacing and no chance of the shock breaking the speed sensor anymore. love this AC setup. like the fact that the motor and controller was engineered to work together. went for some bumpy off raod riding today and shock maintained its clearance. see updated pics of shock clearance and rotated motor |
