Went kinda nuts with the HF shop mats........
You know, my "real" hobby is supposed to be woodworking. I've obviously been a bit sidetracked with building the cart over the last year and work as been so crazy to boot that I really have not done any real woodworking for a couple of years. I have help at work now and I'm running out of ideas for the cart so I truly hope to be able to get back to doing some woodworking very soon. I built a 1200 sq.ft. shop when we bought this house and equipped it with about everything a serious woodworker could ever want. It has been a great source of relaxation for me over the years. I've spent about as much time working on the shop as in it even though I've built nearly every piece of furniture on our entire house over the past 12 years that I've been woodworking. My shop had been sorely neglected over the past couple of years and I was determined to get it in shape before I resumed woodworking. I saw that Harbor Freight had their shop mats on sale so I figured I would take advantage of that and make the shop a bit more comfortable.
I bought 32 packs of mats which were $9.99 each. I had a 20% off coupon so tax and all I spent $279.33 for 512 sq.ft. of mats. I've had horse some stall mats on the floor for years but thay are a pain to clean and are really to hard to give my aching feet and back much relief. Here's some pics of the finished project....... Kind of a pain to cut and fit around all of the tools but I think it was worth it to get everything to fit as well as I could. I moved the horse stall mats to the auto/golf cart portion of the shop. Not sure I'm going to leave them there but I hate to just get rid of them and they do help a little bit over the naked concrete. I am super happy with how this turned out. I can tell that it will be a huge improvement over the old mats. My wife has been patiently waiting for quite a while for me to get back to the dining room set that I'm supposed to be working on so hopefully all these new mats and a clean shop will inspire me to actually go back to building chairs instead of golf carts. Guess I should show a pic of the outside to so you guys get the whole shop experience... There is a ton more pics of the shop here if anyone is interested. Scroll down to the SHOP 2012 photos for the latest... http://www.terryhatfield.com/shop_photos_30.html Hope you enjoyed the shop tour!!! |

You bet, G. Come on down. I could certainly use your help!
I've got quite a few of the parts already mlled from way back when but I am actually I the midst of 10...yes...10 dining chairs. They are quite a bit more complicated to build than golf carts. I've already built a dining table that seats 8 and a matching china cabinet but Cheryl wants a bigger table that will seat 10 now plus the old one is more country style and we now have the house more mission style so thus the new build. |

The tool set is a bit different, but the wood still needs to be shown what to do.
