Default Rack & Pinion

Anyone out there ever throw a mini rack on their cart? Putting on a quad double arm front end and need a tight light rack to make it work. Any ideas, pics, links?

I have a rack and pinion (stock vw i think) on my Yamaha G 14 now, but plan on replacing it with this:

http://www.chircoestore.com/catalog/...oducts_id=3492

Looks compact and easy to mount, so shouldn't be too hard to get working properly.

Btw, where are you guys finding these quad front ends?

Stick to the 8" wide unit if you can, unless your front end is 7ft wide.

I haven't drawn any plans yet, but I was thinking it could be done with a couple u-joints and a length of column stock to extend the steering shaft. Also you will need to fab a mount for the rack that allows for porper steering geometry throughout the suspension travel. I haven't begun work on this yet because I plan on installing long travel front suspension. I don't have the suspension on the cart yet so it would be impossible (or near) to design a mount bracket or tabs for the new rack or the steering shaft dimensions. At any rate, I have no doubt that if this were done right there would be a great improvement over the current set up I have.

Thanks Kelly, hadn't thought about just using a knuckle. Looks like all the parts a guy would need are on that web site.......

Thanks Kelly. Thats kinda what i had in mind- actual size im thinking 8" taotal is about as wide as I dare to go. I bought a junk suzuki 230 for a 100 bones. Sold tires/ rims, motor cut off the front end and junked the rest- made $75. Kinda tricky with space to get it over to the right height but a think a couple knuckles may work. If not ill throw a couple spockets in with a chain and convert to the rack- that way i can change the ratio if its a light to tight.

Be sure to post pics for us to see what you have done. I can't seem to get out to work on mine (yard work, visiting my family, helping dad around his house, g/f's family is visiting from Canada, my yard work, the list never ends). Maybe things will settle down after X-mas. I would try to stick with steering shaft and u-joints to minimize steering slop, just another thought.
