Default Re: 1995 Par Car 2 stroke spark issue

I only see made in the USA without taking it out. The coil looks old and was in it when I bought the cart 2 years ago. I'm sure the new ignition module died but I'm worried I will keep frying them if I buy another. I really appreciate all the help. This cart has been dead all spring and I'm really trying to get it going for the weekend. I have a MSD blaster coil but am unsure how to regulate it down. If only a place was local to me to get this thing fixed.....I'm in Michigan.

To see if you checked the primary resistance of the coil correctly, check the primary resistance of the MSD coil.

MSD Blaster 2 Coil: 45,000 V - Primary resistance 0.7 ohms
MSD Blaster SS Coils: 40,000 V - Primary resistance 0.355 ohms

All you have to do is find out what your coil is, then subtract that from the resistance you want.
5 ohms desired - 0.7 ohms coil = 4.3 ohms
So you need to wire in a 4.3 ohm ballast resistor. There are different values for the resistors and may not be the exact number you want.

The MSD is 2.3 with the same test. What else could make the module blow? The cart ran on points when I bought it because he blew the ignition module. Last July I installed another ignition module and it ran great until this spring. Unfortunatley I can't find the points set up.

Well that certainly doesn't match the resistance that I found.
What's the part number on the MSD Blaster coil?

Low resistance is the only thing I know of that makes them go out. Heat may be a factor. Lochlin or someone else probably has some theories.

Do you still have the points plate, old points and condensor?

You should still have a certain amount of resistance when using points.

On is 8202. I can't find the points set up so I'll order it all tonight.

That is the MSD Blaster 2 coil.
Primary Resistance: 0.7 ohms
Secondary Resistance: 4.70K ohms

You must not be testing correctly. You should be getting something close to 0.7 ohms.
Touch the small + terminal with one lead and touch the small - terminal for primary resistance.
For secondary resistance touch the small + terminal with one lead and touch the spark plug wire socket with the other.

I touched both ends of the coil. I must have the voltmeter On the wrong setting.

Play with it and see if you can get something close to 0.7 ohms with the MSD coil. You may have posted the wrong primary resistance for the coil on your cart which may explain why your ignition module went out.

Whether you go back with the ignition module or points you need to know the primary resistance of your coil.

The MSD is 1.7 primary and 5.3 secondary. Not sure why not is so highly. Its brand new.

I'd expect it to be off a little bit. Go recheck your coil on your cart and see what it says.
