engine is either "on" or "off"
My cart seems to be running good. Just put a new top end on it last week, the first time I have ever done this so it was a learning experience. My question or problem is the engine seems to be either running or not. What I mean is your cruising along and go to let of gas a little and it shuts engine off, and then you touch the accelerator again and it is back on again. Am I explaining this correctly? It does not seem to be a problem it is just kinda annoying, on,off,on,off....... maybe this is how they were meant to run and operate for all I know, I dont think it hurts anything, I just think it would sound smoother if the engine did not shut down every time you let off the gas. The carb and throttle lever seem to work fine and smoothly. Is there a adjustment on the starter generator switch or something? It just seems like when you go to decelerate if you do not do it extremely slowly and smoothly engine shuts off and then kicks back on again, like I said just kinda annoying

Re: engine is either "on" or "off"
If you remove your foot completely off the accelerator, it's supposed to "kill" the engine. That's normal. If your cruising and the engine dies on slight deceleration, that's not normal.

Re: engine is either "on" or "off"
IF you have the key off and slightly hit the gas you should hear a click which is the micro switch under the floor that engages the starter and powers the ignition coil. At that point the throttle should barely be open.
The throttle arm on the carb has a spring on it (part of the carb) that is supposed to be wound to spring to full open. The gas pedal cable and governor (if its still there) pull it shut which is sort of opposite how a gas pedal works on a car. The cables are not attached to the arm, they either have a stop on em or are bent into a hook shape. The travel distance of the arm and pedal are not quite matched so even if you don't have a governor you still don't want the pedal cable firmly attached. IF the throttle does not fully close when the pedal is off you will have trouble going slow and will tend to backfire through the muffler a lot. I just went through that on one of mine. I adjusted it by moving the clamp on the cable housing under the floor. |

Re: engine is either "on" or "off"
I will fine tune the cart tomorrow. Drove it around a lot today cause family was over for a picnic. I think at this point im just noticing it a lot more cause the cart seems so much louder to me (see my other recent post). So im going to double check the new exhaust gasket that came with the new jug that i installed.
