Default Where to begin?

Hello, All!

I am going to fully display my ignorance here with my first post so please, go easy on me.

We just got a 2004 EZGO electric golf cart. It's great! All new paint, new upholstery, batteries less than a few month old (tested perfectly), and a few other things. It's a ton of fun and quite handy to have around.

Here's where I need your help (again, please be gentle):

There is a driver side lean. I assume I can just change our the springs to level it back out. Anything else I should look out for in the process? We don't want to really lift it.

The top speed is about 10-12 MPH. I assume this means the motor needs to be replaced since the Trojan batteries are basically brand new (and the motor is the 2004 original). What should I consider replacing in addition to the motor? Speaking of motors, a stock version is just fine. We don't need to go 25 MPH. Our 3 and 5 year old kiddos would love it of course but it's not necessary. Any ideas where to get one?

And I hate to beg but, if you recommend a fix, can you also maybe refer me to a website for purchase?

Thank you all in advance!
Mike

New springs would probably cure the lean and replace the bushings while you're at it.

You didn't say if it's 36 or 48 volts but I'm guessing 36 volts. raising the volts to 48 will gain you the most speed and torque but will require a new controller, solenoid bigger gauge wires and possibly a motor. Assuming that you are running on 36 volts now and you want a little bit more speed (say 3mph) and a 25% gain in torque then you should investigate the Plum Quick Bandit upgrade for $325 plus 2 way shipping, this is the best bang for your buck. Find out what motor you currently have.

It's 48v. Sorry, I should have noted that.

I have connected with Plum Quick and I'm thinking the Bandit upgrade is appropriate for us. I just hate that it's a 6 week turnaround time right now.

Don't know if you want speed or torque but you could check out some of the motor options on cartsunlimited.net, maybe an Admiral would work for you. Could increase your tire diameter for more speed but that will also reduce torque.

After poking around on the site, I have the EZGO TXT Series (48v). That's really nice to know now so thank you for the tips! I have a feeling we will go the Bandit route from Plum Quick given the cost. 6 weeks isn't all that bad to go without. Shoot, I've gone 42 years without one. Again, thank you.

Where do you all recommend I go for the leaf springs? I find some options for $100-150 and others for more. Is there a brand that you all recommend?

Thanks in advance!

I would suggest Red Hawk brand since they’re U.S. made. Just find your best price and buy. If replacing the rears I would suggest dual rate.
