Default 2007 ezgo rearend problem

Looked at a 2007 ezgo for a guy tonight. It has the stock motor and clutch’s. Has bigger tires(12” probably). His girlfriend drove it to work today and when she stopped the rearend made a clunk. The secondary clutch and shaft that goes into the rearend spins freely now. I am not familiar with these rearends. Is there gears that mesh to make it drive, is there a key way that may have let go, etc…. I’ve done a little research for a schematic on this rearend which is a me29. If someone has a schematic would you share it please. And any other information from past experiences. We plan to tear it out and see what broke. Thanks

Dont tear it out just yet.
Get someone to sit on it and try to drive it while you watch the hub nuts in the rear wheels. If one spins, it is most likely to be a stripped brake drum and will need replacing. If so come back here and someone will give you the correct procedure to tighten the hub nut correctly.

Its a common issue on these.

Make sure the neutral lock out switch on the shifter isn't engaged. If it wasn't turned all the way, possible that it snapped into the locked position.

Several photos in this thread link below of the internals of the transaxle. The thread is of high speed gear install, but you can see what is in there. Several items could have broken, but I doubt it.
