The batteries do not get hot... I was referring to the charger. It gets very warm to the touch (96 degrees here in Hudson Valley of NY today) and the little fan in it probably cannot exchange much air, especially in the bucket, with seat down. I love the bungee cord idea for hot days....

Charge at night ... if you live someplace that cools off, I know some places do not

My cart is outside all the time. The only water damage I ever had was when I ran an extension cord over the seat. Rainwater ran down the cord and damaged the thermostat on the heating pad I was using to keep my batteries warm in the winter. But when the seat is closed nothing gets in.
