Default HOW TO: Install LED mirrors with turn signal flashers

This is a little how-to install mirrors with LED turn-signal lights built in. I saw them on Virjose's cart and decided to get my own set. I hate leaving my turn signal on and forgetting when I'm driving, so this really does help prevent that.

It requires drilling 2 small holes in the cart's metal roof supports and assumes you have basic tools at home. I'm only listing the unusual stuff.

Difficulty (1-5 with 5 as most difficult): 2. Under 1 hour to complete.

What you need:
What to do:

The kit comes with the mirrors, wires, splicing connectors, etc. Your current mirrors have 2 holes (top & bottom). For this kit, those holes will become top & middle, and you'll drill a new bottom hole. The middle hole (old bottom) lines up perfectly for the wire to run.
  1. Prep: The mirrors come with male spade connectors already on the wires. Cut them off. They won't fit down the tube with them on.
  2. Prep: Remove the center cupholders & display. To do this, sit in the seat directly in front of the cupholders and using both hands in the cup holders, pull hard towards your body and up a little. You have to pull reasonably hard towards you, but don't need to hulk it, but definitely very firm. You'll need access here later.
  3. Unbolt and remove the current mirrors. The existing holes line up perfectly with the new mirror's TOP hole, WIRE hole, but no BOTTOM hole. This is what you'll need to drill, a bottom bolt hole. Save these bolts as you can reuse them if you prefer the look over the kit's bolts.
  4. Use the new mirror and place 1 bolt through the top hole and line up the wire with the middle hole. Then using a marker or something place a mark through the bottom hole of the new mirror. This is where you drill. Remove the top bolt and mirror before drilling. Use a bit that's big enough for the bolt to pass through and when you're done you'll have something similar to this:
  5. Now feed the wire down the tube through the middle hole. I used a stiff blue wire to help feed, you may not need it though. Note: in this picture the bottom hole is not yet drilled and I made the mistake of drilling a hole near the bottom of the tube which is completely unnecessary. The pictures give you an idea of what you're trying to do.

  6. At the bottom of the support, remove 1 Philips screw and pull the rubber grommet out of the way. Right below the lower bolt in my picture is where the wire will come out of the tube. Ignore the hole I drilled in mine. I felt like an idiot when I saw the tube ended a couple inches below the tube. Pull all of the slack from the wire through, bolt on your mirror, then feed the wire towards the front of the cart up and over the back of the headlight housing.
  7. Now reach through the center console (where cupholders were) and pull both of your wires through. Strip the ends of all 4 wires (2 sets), and attach the 4 male spade terminals.
  8. Reach your arm in through the center console towards the front left & right and find the left/right turn signal connectors. They look like this:
  9. Disconnect them so you can have some slack, and using the provided wire splice female-spade connectors, connect 1 to each of the 4 wires. Use pliers to squeeze them down tight over the wire and make sure they're clipped.
  10. Connect the black wire of the mirror to the black wire of the turn signals. Then connect the remaining wire to the other colored wire. Black to black is all you need to remember. The male spade bit slides into the side of the connector. Reconnect the turn signal connector too and it should look something like this:
  11. Turn on cart and test turn signals and verify everything is working properly.
  12. To wrap up, use electrical tape around the connections to make sure nothing pulls out on accident. Replace the cup holders/display starting with the back first. Replace the grommet. You may need to use a small screwdriver or something to help tuck the grommet in properly.

And you're done! Hope this helps somebody.

Default HOW TO: Install LED mirrors with turn signal flashers

I have my wires zip tied to the frame right now so it only took me about 30 minutes to install. I really like these mirrors for $40.

Great write up. I was going to do the signal mirrors on mine but ended up buying a beeper/buzzer and spliced into the existing circuit.

@bbbdale - Did you have to drill another mounting hole or did those mirrors match the same hole?

I was going to do the writeup without cutting the wires, but it's such a minor thing to avoid the zip ties on outside of cart.

Pretty sure I used an existing hole and then drilled a 2nd hole. Or maybe I drilled 2 holes. I have them mounted as high up as they would go.

Is there a separate pair of wires for each turn signal direction?

Yes. All you're doing is splicing into the 2 sets of wires that go to the existing left/right turn signal lights on the front or your ICON.

So your existing left front turn signal has 2 wires and your existing right front turn signal has 2 wires.

So whenever your left light comes on, now enough power will be sent to your mirror light as well. Same with the right.

The link you provided to the 4 insulated connectors, does that include the splicers as well?

No, but the splicers are included in the mirror kit.

What size bit did you use to drill the third hole?
