Otis Westcoaster Project
I picked up this cool little project a few weeks back. It’s an Otis Westcoaster FreightAway4.
It’s sat outside for years with no bed covering so brakes and motor are seized. Found a lot of new brake parts already but I need to start piecing together some drivetrain. I’d really like to got 48v lithium with an Alltrax controller. I’ve already spent a bunch of time on Scotty’s website. I need to start figuring out a motor. I’d appreciate any comments or feed back especially from people with any knowledge of these things. Thanks Steve |

Re: Otis Westcoaster Project
Slow progress. I was able to finally get the brake drums pulled. Everything was so rusted the linings finally pulled from the shoes. I found. a local machine shop who was able to clean the drums up a lot more than I expected. I found new shoes, wheel cylinders, hardware and adjusters at Vintage Golf Cart Parts.

Re: Otis Westcoaster Project
Pretty cool looking project! I like the cabover look. I think if it were me, I'd be lookin for a EZGO or Club Car rear end with motor and modernize it with something I could get parts for. I know you're already into the brakes but it's just a thought. Seems like that belt drive would give you some problems if you switch to 48 volts for more torque and speed. Looking forward to your progress.

Re: Otis Westcoaster Project
Progress has been slow. Wrapped up the brakes, replaced front wheel bearings and races. Had a cracked wheel hub which I was able to drill out and weld back. Replaced the rear bed sides to replace the damaged old one and strengthened the body/bed supports. It had been rear ended pretty hard at one point. Now to start on the battery box.

Re: Otis Westcoaster Project
Now that I’m done welding I can start mounting electronics. About to start mocking up the accessory wiring harness.
