Default Vertical play in spindles

im installing a drop axle lift, on a 95 ezgo. I was wondering how much up and down play yall have in the spindle between the axle ears? I have one washer that went in between the spindle and axle ear, reinstalled it and greased until I saw grease on both ends and I still have 1/16" play up and down. is there supposed to be a washer on top and on bottom of spindle between axle or is a certain amount of play normal when the weight is on it for steering purposes?

Sounds like a worn spindle. If you are lucky it will have bushings inside. Check that. You'll have some movement, but not much. How does is steer? Are the wheels tracking straight or is there negative camber?

I'm not real familiar with that model. Sometimes there is a bronze bushing in the spindle for the kingpin to wear against. Steel to steel causes lots of wear on the spindle, which is an expensive part. $5 bronze bushings wear fast, but since bronze is softer it saves wear on the spindle.
