Default Solar Setups

More in the drawing board stages on this one.

What I have is a 36v system on a G9- I added a aux batt to drive my lights, stereo, tail lights, and 400 watt dc inverter. The aux is a deep cycle 12v.

I have been pipe dreaming of a plan to add a solar panel kit (45 watt) kit to the cart as a introduction to solar. I am techy by nature, and we run a service business in a small town for computer repair. Picked up the cart for $200.00 and after rewiring the batts, and aux systems the cart is very functional. With a cheap paint job and some logos, we have a neat advertising tool also.

The cart is super geek, as I can run a mobile hot spot, and Ipads, droids with gps, toys and more toys off the 12v. The last piece to the puzzle is the solar panel to recharge the 12v, and also somehow the 36v.

I am just a tinker and I know that I could rig this system to trickle charge my 12v ( as designed), but the question becomes is there a good way to charge the 12v, and the 36v?

I am sure this has been done, and I don't wat to reinvent the wheel. Just curious as to what others have tried.

Thanks in advance.

Cool Re: Solar Setups

Welcome and I want to keep up on this. I have used a 5 watt panel for my 12 volts and it will play the radio all day long but at night the lights will drain it. The 5 watt isn't enough to keep it fully chargered.
How about some pictures of what u have so far?

I've thought about this before but it's been done. Pricey but would be nice especially here in FL.

I think I figured it out. I am leaning towards the idea that any panel can be used, the one in the link above was 36watts, the real beef is in the controller.

Not as pricey, plus if you build your own panel puts the cost under 400.00!!

After searching the internet with all my might here is what a have as a materials list.

http://www.solarseller.com/flexcharg...olt_controller

This appears to be the best controller in terms of price and amps.

I am leaning towards making my own panels.

Time is a factor, but can be done in a week or so.

Any thoughts?

I have built an panel and by the time you buy the cells and build it you can buy a 36v panel. for not much more.

On ebay they sell 60w to 80w 36v and 48v panels for golf carts, They mount to your roof for about 200.00 give or take depending on make.

I have even seen a 72v

I wouldn't use a controller, not needed with 6 batteries if you use the cart often and store inside.

I agree on the controller. My cart is stored inside and usually on see action on the weekend. I know most guys would freak out.
