Default Yamaha rev limiter

I am having problems with my Yamaha G2. It keeps surging. I would like to know at what revs the rev limiter cuts in and should the ignition advance at higher revs, mine doesn't. I found a document which states an advance of 30mm at 2500 revs as measured with ref to TDC.
Thank you for any replies

With stock tires the rev limiter shouldn’t hit until you’re over 20mph. You’ll know it because it won’t surge, it will just stop and completely shut the engine off until you slow a bit and then it’ll start running again.

Surging is likely either a carb issue, or a clutch issue.

Thank you I have cleaned the carb out completely and run the buggy over rich and lean I have also checked the primary clutch but all the weights are sound all to no effect. That is why I wondered if the ignition should advance and retard which it isn't.

Secondary clutch often will cause surging type problems. Can also cause you to bounce off the rev limiter at low speeds due to gearing

Thank you for your replies I will investigate on my return from a short break. It shouldn't be this difficult, I thought I was a reasonable amateur engineer.

A cheap, less then 10.00 "Dynamic spark tester" will show you if the spark is really cutting out causing the an ignition problem.

Thanks for the thought, I have checked it ok whilst stationary but will get a tester with longer leads so I can see whats happening whilst being driven.
