Yamaha G29 W/Hitachi DC motor & speed sensor
I've been given the task of finding out root cause behind the G29's condition of no selenoid activation, occasional reverse buzzer (which stops after a few seconds).
History before I received the cart. Customer has installed new batteries, replaced the selenoid, & replaced forward reverse switch. I've isolated and tested foot pedal speed TPS, and pedal switch, all oK. Checked all fusing, isolated and check selenoid for proper operation, and isolated and ran the motor w/ a separate DC source. The customer had repaired three wires that feed the speed sensor on the DC motor. I've determined there is voltage present (5.9VDC) between red & black wires, but nothing to green. Is there a test I can perform on the speed sensor? Other than this device, things seem to point to the Moric controller which I don't want to call out as the problem prematurely and spend his money needlessly. Any input is appreciated. Thank you Motor shop Bob |

Re: Yamaha G29 W/Hitachi DC motor & speed sensor
I believe the solenoid is activated by a negative signal from the Moric. If you suspect the controller and you have tested all inputs to it, if so you may be able to remove the wire from controller to solenoid and feed the solenoid direct from battery negative post to see if things work with the wheels off the ground. If so, it may be the controller is faulty.
Im not an electric cart expert but i am sure someone else will confirm or slap me down LOL. |

Re: Yamaha G29 W/Hitachi DC motor & speed sensor
The Moric controller often fails. I have two G29's - neither still have the Moric controller or the Hitachi motor. The failure on one of my Morics was that it would not energize the solenoid. I think a failed solenoid took out the transistor that energizes the solenoid.

I have seen the same a few times now. You can run the cart with the solenoid direct to pack negative but you lose the safety factor of the controller shutting down the solenoid on errors. Good for diagnosis though. That's why I suggested wheels off the ground.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is any reasonable way to repair these controllers either.

I think the easiest solution may be the plug and play alltrax if all inputs are good. At least you can change controller settings easy with a windows device.

I went with Alltrax for both of my carts. I wanted the ability to tune it with my laptop. I have 7 years on my Alltrax in my first cart - three in the second.
