warning!!! always turn you key off when getting on or off your cart
our oldest Golden has bad hips and usually he waits for me to help him off and on the golf cart but this morning he wanted to show me how he could jump up himself like our young golden does. thankfully he is ok but the frame, lift kit, top and batteries are shot.
I wonder if the batteries can be salvaged although they lost most of their water |

Oh man that is terrible, thank God the pup is not hurt.
That is a very good lesson, in fact we never leave the keys in our carts mostly because we have our Grandgirls and we live somewhat remote (although no keys aren't going to stop a theif). |

Re: warning!!! always turn you key off when getting on or off your cart
A neighbor had a dog sit on the go pedal and back the cart thru a wood fence.
I always put the F&R in neutral or turn the key off depending upon the cart. The risk of accidental acceleration is real - Who can forget the Texas football stadium video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixMVuOslebI |

Re: warning!!! always turn you key off when getting on or off your cart
I believe that your batteries will be ok being that they weren't used or charged after they lost their water / electrolyte. Heck, a lot of smaller batteries are shipped dry and a user has to add the electrolyte mix prior to use. If you don't have one, you may want to grab a hydrometer somewhere to check the electrolyte levels.
Here is a link that discusses having to add electrolyte to batteries. Coincidentally, it mentions that electrolyte normally never needs to be added to batteries but in some instances, such as tip overs, it does: https://www.lifewire.com/when-does-a...f-water-534621 |

That's one way to inspect the undercarriage

Re: warning!!! always turn you key off when getting on or off your cart
correct me if I am wrong but since the batteries were fully charged and recently topped off shouldn't I be able to just top them off with electrolyte fluid straight out of the container?

That is what Lochlin suggested.

Re: warning!!! always turn you key off when getting on or off your cart
I'm just glad the pupper is ok, But that is exactly why I at least turn the key off when I stop so that Rugby doesn't hit the gas when he jumps off :) I would think a refill would work, it's not like the batterie discharged, they simply where drained ? You might want to open a new thread titled, what happens if my batteries are turned over and drain ?

Yep, its not uncommon for use to get carts in that the dog, kids, or an unsmart person got on and pushed the pedal and off they went....

If you wanted to go crazy with it you can figure out the specific acid concentrations with what you have left in each battery and add electrolyte or diluted electrolyte as needed. Electrolyte in FLA batteries is about 30% acid and 70% water but there is good deal of tolerance with those figures. I don't think you have much to worry about with it. |
