94 medalist 36v for hunting.
I have a 95 medalist. New Curtis PMC controller. Bad batteries. Bad cables.
I am looking to rehab this thing cheap to see if it is even a usable option. Thinking about putting an allied 36v lithium in it and possibly add another later. My needs are this. Haul 2 guys. #225each on mostly flat river bottom fairly smooth terrain with a short hill to get out. 3-5 mi round trip twice a day. Would like to go to 48v but I would have to start over with electronics. Will 36v36ah allied lithium cover my needs. |

One thing I've noticed with my 36 volt cart is it doesn't do well in mud...it uses up batteries more in mud than it does going up hills. You will probably be fine most times until you can go to 48volt. Take a come-a-long or install a winch for those muddy spots.

Even my 48V consumes juice in the mud. Muddy wet conditions are almost as bad as cold weather. (Below 32). I have a front & rear winch powered by a separate 12v marine battery.

I ran my cart on 2 of the 48v 30aH allieds for a year. Had good range (30+ miles) and never had any problems. But I knew I was getting close to maxing the BMS especially in wet or cold so I got a 3rd one and been very happy with that setup. Lithium costs money, but it’s worth it. However if you don’t have the budget for a quality pack that will meet your use case needs, you’re better off sticking with lead acid. Cheap lithium batteries are out there but you truly get what you pay for. Their BMS doesn’t live up to specs so you’ll constantly be tripping the BMS, range isn’t the same, and it’s just asking for a load of problems. |
