Default Deep cycle marine battery vs golf cart battery

Bought a 36V Marathon cart. We put 3 12V marine deep cycle batteries in since we weren’t sure if it ran. Had plumb quick rebuild the motor but cart is still slow. Will changing to 6 6V golf cart batteries improve speed and or distance? Thanks

If its an older series cart the best way to get speed is more voltage or upgrading to 48v... The marine starting batteries are not true deep cycle batteries and they will likely cause issues when they overheat from the current demand. They will also put out less voltage and current as they heat up and make the cart slower.

While they will run your cart, deep cycle Marine batteries are not what you want especially since you are asking about speed and distance. You will get neither from those batteries.

I ran 3 Club Car/Trojan 12 volts in one of my carts for a while and it works but not the greatest run time. Bought them when Club Car got into it with Trojan and replaced all of their batteries with US battery. Paid like $40 each at a year old..

Distance increase with 6-6volt batteries absolutely. What kind of speed do you get?

I think around 14. Plumb quick said probably see an increase to 17 with motor rebuild. Not trying to set any speed records, after all it’s a $500 golf cart.

You would see over 20mph by just swapping to 48v which is much cheaper than having the motor redone if you need golf cart batteries anyway...

Thanks for the info. Is there a good tutorial on the 36V to 48V conversion?

I'm not sure. It would be different for different types of drive systems but for an older series cart It required an aftermarket controller ,48v solenoid and of course batteries. But since the current actually drops you can use the stock f&r switch unless your going to a high amp setup. And you may also want to replace the buzzer for reverse
