Default Driven clutch with wide belt

After lots of searching i can't seem to find the answer as to why I am unable to use a 1-3/16 wide belt on the stock cc secondary clutch. Every one just says "you cant do it".

It's too wide!
Club Car clutches were designed for a 1" drive belt, the 1 3/16" belt will come right out of a CC secondary at a stop.

It also won’t drop far enough into the secondary to achieve top speed.

It’s not hard to get and use an oem belt, why all the effort to fit something that won’t fit?

So I've ordered a Comet 780 for my 1986 Club Car DS from Vegas Carts and it uses the wider belt. They are sold out of the HD Seconday clutch for the 1 3/16" belt. I really didn't want to spend the additional $250 for it anyway. I am gonna experiment. I went to Tractor Supply and got a 4-pack of 1 1/4" x 14 gauge machinery bushings, opened the secondary clutch and stacked 3 of the bushings between the pulley sheaves. Looks like it's gonna give me the clearance for the wider belt and I see no reason it won't work perfectly. I'll update you after the primary clutch comes in and I get it ops checked.
I attached pix of the bushing package and the bushings installed between the sheaves.
Additionally, including a link to Dayco's belt sizing site so you can find the right belt by dimensions. The dimensional lookup tool on the left side of the page is quite handy. My local Advance Auto is able to get most sizes in half a day.

The answer is yes. It works perfectly. Anyone think it's worth posting as a new thread?

Hey Sgtbilko where exactly did you put the spacers in the driven? I’m in the same boat as you and don’t wanna spend another $250 on the driven just yet.
