EZ GO wiring in state of charge meter 36 Volt
I have a 94 EZ GO Medalist Fleet Cart which has no state of Battery Charge Meter. I have just purchased a digital horizontally mounted meter off of ebay and a Face Plate in which the meter and ignition switch fit into. I understand that with the key off the meter is non functional. I'm hoping that when the meter arrives that it will have a wiring diagram with it. If not I need to know how it is wired into the ignition circuit. if anyone can help out here it would be greatly appreciated. P.S. This is my first post..

Re: EZ GO wiring in state of charge meter 36 Volt
Welcome to the forum......with your digital voltmeter determine which side of the ignition switch is always hot and which side is switched.....determine what polarity the ignition circut is.....connect to the switched side of the ignition switch and the appropiate other end (pos or neg) of the battery pack.

Re: EZ GO wiring in state of charge meter 36 Volt
OK, I think I've got it. I'll wait for the meter and see what comes with it in the way of instructions. I printed some other instructions for a different meter but digital as well and they show neg from battery to meter and then meter to ground side of switch but as you said you must determine which side is switched and which side is hot. Thanks for the help!!!!!

Re: EZ GO wiring in state of charge meter 36 Volt
Also important to verify which polarity is being switched....likely it is positive but you will need a pos and neg to run the meter. These leads should connect to the battery pack ends where the charger connections are....
Also I want to point out that the LED type of gauge you are getting draws a very minimum of juice. I have hardwired these in ( on all the time) with no ill effects on the pack....that way, I could see the state of charge any time I walked by the cart = not just when I drove it. |

Re: EZ GO wiring in state of charge meter 36 Volt
Thanks for all the info and the wiring schematic. I was wondering what would happen if you just hard wired the meter to the pos and neg terminal of the battery without going through the switch, now I know! Now I have a decision to make!!! Thanks again

Re: EZ GO wiring in state of charge meter 36 Volt
Thanks for the welcome. Always fun when you try to add something to make your life easier. One way to advoid the pitfalls is to ask the right questions.. What I'm trying to do is to charge the batteries at the appropriate time so as to get the most out of them. I have just replaced all of my batteries with Sams Club interstates. Without a meter it's by guess and by gosh... Anyway wish me luck.....

Re: EZ GO wiring in state of charge meter 36 Volt
Even after you get the meter installed, you will need a voltmeter to tell when to recharge until you know where on thew dial equates to time to recharge. Otherwise it will be by josh and be jolly?
