Default 2003 G22 Charger?

Good Day all,

OK, I am ignorant when it comes to the Yamaha Electric. My current cart is an old EZ-Go.

I just picked up a very nice 2003 G22e. I am assuming the batteries are suffering irreparable damage but the budget is restricting me from just running down and picking up a 6-pack of 8 volts for a couple of weeks.

SOO Here is the real question. I plugged in the charger to the cart to see if there was any hope in the batteries (I checked the water first and it is ok) The charger does not do ANYTHING. I mean no lights, no hum, no clicks, no smoke signals, nothing.

scr 81717 is the charger model. Instructions state to plug into the AC Outlet, then into DC. Lights should flash and then a charging cycle should begin.

Is this a normal state if the batteries are absolutely DOA? They all show some juice in them (Low <~4v) I would assume that the charger would at least flash a couple of seconds before flipping me off and doing nothing.

Otherwise, this is a very nice cart I am having considerations of doing a Lithium as opposed to the FLA batteries again. If I do that, I will of course have more questions. :)

Thanks in advance.

Not 100% sure but think pack voltage needs to be near 40 before the charger will even try. I would think it would at least have a power on light.

Thats sort of what I was thinking. I would have thought a flashy light, a buz, hum, click SOMETHING!! :)

Thats why I asked. It didn't make any sense. My EZ-GO hums like it's.. well, it hums :)

If the batteries are very dead, the charger won't start. You can possibly get it running by first charging each battery for a few minutes with a car battery charger. I have done this several times for buddies that allowed their cart to drain when they were gone for the summer. Just hook a charger to each battery for maybe 10 minutes and monitor the voltage. It should quickly come up to 6 volts or so and that may be enough to get the charger running after you do this to each battery. You do not have to disconnect the batteries from the cart circuit. Just clip the charger on to one battery at a time. A 12V charger will be putting out a bit more than rated current charging 8V batteries so don't leave it on for more than maybe 10 minutes each battery.

I started doing that. The batteries may just be that far gone. I was hoping I could jumpstart them. I know there is a trick with a welder, but since I Have a pacemaker, that is probably a VERY bad idea.

It will have to sit for a few weeks until I get the funds up to buy some batteries.

SO that brings me to the question of if I do FLA or Lithium.

And if I do Lithium. Do I do 4 12v or 1 48v. I would think the 4 12v would give me more run time since each has 100ah(400ah) of capacity as opposed to a single 48v with 100ah of cap.

I guess that's a whole different thread. :)

If you choose Lithium do NOT do 4 x 12V. Do a single 48V. Read up on all of that her on the forum to avoid bad decisions.
